For this week’s Wind View, we’re highlighting One Energy’s construction team as they build a crane mat!
A crane mat is made of large timber, and its purpose is to support the load between the crane tracks and the ground during lifting activities. Crane mats create a greater footprint below the crane, which helps spread the crane’s weight across more area, ultimately providing a larger bearing surface. Cranes can perform most of their standard movements on the mat, like tracking forward and backward, swinging, and booming.
