ENABLING STEM LOCALLY

When One Power installs wind turbines in a community, we can’t help but notice the immense potential of the local students. We want the skylines we create to inspire future STEM leaders.

One Power strives to be meaningful corporate citizens by engaging in purposes that match our values most. We believe in a future full of innovation, and that’s why we support STEM education.

Science, technology, engineering, and math are the foundations of what One Power does. When we see an opportunity to promote STEM programs in our communities, we jump at the chance. It’s one of the best ways we can think of to put our money and energy behind what we believe in.

To One Power, enabling STEM education means funding college scholarships, sponsoring scholastic competitions, giving educational tours and presentations, providing internships, hosting student shadow programs, helping bring STEM curriculum into classrooms, accepting invitations to speak, and making the most of opportunities to fortify the future of STEM.

Scholarships

Supporting higher education, from even higher turbines.

For every wind turbine One Power installs, we award a $5,000 scholarship every year to a local student pursuing STEM education. If you see five wind turbines, that equals five annual scholarships. The awards will continue to be granted every year for 20 years. In other words, every single turbine will invest $100K in local students.

We aim to ensure our financial contribution is significant enough to have a meaningful impact on each recipient’s academic endeavors. And as a bonus, recipients’ names are permanently displayed on a wind turbine, as a lasting symbol of their achievement. It’s our way of taking STEM support to a new degree.

Scholastic Competitions

To change skylines, One Power believes we need to start with the basic building blocks. Even before students are thinking about college degrees, their curious minds are constantly engineering innovative ideas. That’s why One Power sponsors local elementary school teams in robotics competitions. We aim to ignite STEM interests in the youth of our community by donating LEGOs, hosting practice at our headquarters, and helping students master the elements of engineering in their robotic creations.

Internships and Job Shadowing

Learn by doing is a mantra even our most seasoned employees live by. So when high school students ask us what it’s like to work at One Power, we find it’s best to invite them to find out for themselves – and gain the knowledge and experience that comes with doing our jobs firsthand.

Our competitive college internship program runs annually and rotates students through different departments at One Power, depending on their studies and aspirations.

Field Engineer interns, for example, spend time in Construction, Project Planning and Technology, Regulatory Affairs, and R&D. Not only do students gain a wealth of knowledge about One Power and the wind industry, but they also leave with a better understanding of themselves and their career aspirations.

One Power also invites local students who aren’t ready to apply for an internship to explore their interests via Job Shadowing and mentorship. Participating students are matched with an employee whose role at One Power aligns with their area(s) of interest. Job Shadow participants get an up-close understanding of potential careers in wind energy, as well as a behind-the-scenes view of what it’s like to work at One Power.

Tours and Presentations

We agree, what we do at One Power is pretty cool. We love to talk about our work with local groups or curious individuals, whether it’s on a walking tour of one of our projects, a presentation at our headquarters, or speaking at local STEM or community events. A presentation from One Power won’t stop at explaining our business model, however. We’ll share awesome videos and can teach attendees everything we know about wind energy, the renewable industry, meteorology, building a turbine, drone photography, and more – until you’ve had enough.
